Say Hello to Shorthand: The Ultimate Everyday Sweater Knitting Pattern
The last month has been an exciting time for pattern releases.
First, Laine Issue 3 came out, featuring my Hay sweater on the cover, then it was my Fragment t-Shirt and now, it's Shorthand!
I've never released so many knitting patterns all in one month - and it feels great!
Shorthand: A Textural Raglan Sweater Pattern
This sweater design came about when I was daydreaming about the ultimate 'everyday' sweater. It had to be slightly oversized, but slim on the arm; it had to be interesting, but not fussy and it had to look like you were wearing it, not like it was wearing you.
The result was Shorthand.
The Details
Shorthand is knitted top-down in the round, which makes it incredibly easy to try on as you go and make adjustments to the fit if needed. If, like me, you'd like to strengthen your sweater with basting stitches, I link to my blog post on the subject in the pattern.
The broken garter stitch is fun to knit and easy to remember. Best of all, it gives the sweater that much needed squoosh-factor!
I particularly love the mismatched rib on the sleeves and the hem - it's a subtle detail, but it elevates this simple sweater into something extra special. The funnel neck is knitted in a simple 1x1 rib that is designed to sit away from the neck slightly to avoid feeling restrictive.
