New Hat Knitting Pattern: Bowman

Who else has recently taken their woolly accessories out of storage? It's a yearly ritual that I look forward to in the cooler months: my beloved handknit hats and scarves are back in rotation.

This year, I've added a new hat to the collection: my Bowman hat. It's my own design, knitted in Rauwerk's lovely Merino DK.

Bowman: a Slipped Stitch Hat Pattern

Gosh, I love this hat. It has a modern silhouette that is relatively fitted throughout the body but with just the smallest amount of slouch on top. I offer instructions for two head sizes as well as two length options. It features a super simple 1x1 ribbing that is folded and joined at the top of the trim for a neat, stretchy brim.

The stitch is where it gets really exciting. I used slipped stitches to create geometric arrow shapes repeated across the fabric. From afar, it looks like an abstract texture, but up close, you see all of that special detailing. This subtlety makes Bowman incredibly easy to wear with almost anything in your wardrobe!

About Rauwerk's Merino DK

I met Christine from Rauwerk just over a year ago, after we both participated in the Fringe and Friends knitalong for 2016. I was plotting the launch of my knitwear design company and was looking for feedback on what the knitting community was interested in reading/learning about. Christine kindly offered to meet with me in person and we have been friends ever since!

At that first meeting, Christine told me about how she would soon be moving to Munich to open an ethical, eco-friendly yarn shop. Later, I found out that she would also be producing her own yarn!

When Christine asked whether I would like to design anything with her first yarn, Merino DK, I jumped at the chance. It's really special stuff: 2ply, woollen spun Bavarian merino sourced from a single farm in Munich. I chose an undyed shade to work with, but she has also been collaborating with indie dyers such as Moel View Yarn and Hey Mama Wolf to create gorgeous, naturally dyed shades.

The digital knitting pattern for Bowman is now available to purchase and download straight away from my website and RavelryIf you like this pattern, I would really appreciate it if you would favourite and queue it on Ravelry - this helps more people to find it, which helps small designers like me enormously!
